On Our Collection of Data

Zettlr uses the software Matomo to track our visitor's behaviour. We ensure that you are properly anonymised and cannot tell from the data who you are. We have implemented all the recommended settings provided by Matomo to ensure the tracking is GDPR-compliant. Furthermore, your data is only stored safely on our server, located in Germany, and we take precautions to ensure it stays this way. All connections to our site are made using secure connections (SSL). We will never sell any data to third parties. Your data will only be internally used.

What We Collect

On Our Website

We collect a range of indicators to analyse your behaviour and find ways to improve our website. Among others, we collect:

User IP address (anonymised: 192.168.xxx.xxx)
Date and time of the request
Title of the page being viewed (Page Title)
URL of the page being viewed (Page URL)
URL of the page that was viewed prior to the current page (Referrer URL)
Screen resolution being used
Time in local user’s timezone
Files that were clicked and downloaded (Download)
Links to an outside domain that were clicked (Outlink)
Pages generation time (the time it takes for webpages to be generated by the webserver and then downloaded by the user: Page speed)
Location of the user: country, region, city, approximate latitude and longitude (Geolocation)
Main Language of the browser being used (Accept-Language header)
User Agent of the browser being used (User-Agent header)

Via Our Contact Form

If you use the contact form to send us a message, we also save the information you give us via the form, including:

Your Name
Your Email address
The subject line
Your message

This data will be deleted after your issue has been resolved or the data is no longer needed.

Via Our Application

As of July 22nd, 2021, no data is being collected during the application update check. All data that has been collected previously has been deleted without any backup. From version 2.0.0 of the app, the app itself won't even attempt to send any data to our server. Hence: We do not collect any information if you use our app.

Your Rights

Our server is located in the European Union, so you have all rights granted to you as a European citizen by the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation).

You have the right to be informed of Personal Data processed by Zettlr, a right to rectification/correction, erasure and restriction of processing. You also have the right to ask from us a structured, common and machine-readable format of Personal Data you provided to us. We can only identify you and adhere to your request and provide information if we have Personal Data about you through you having made contact with us directly and/or you using our site and/or service. To exercise any of the rights mentioned in this Privacy Policy and/or in the event of questions or comments relating to the use of Personal Data you may contact us: info@zettlr.com. In addition, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection authority in your jurisdiction.
